The New Organ at St. Brigid's Catholic Church

On July 11th 2008 we replaced the ageing pipe organ in St. Brigid's Catholic Church with a new instrument. It is a new digital organ built by the Allen Organ Company in Pennsylvania, USA, the largest builder of church organs in the world.

The old organ was once part of a large three manual instrument located in the old church on the Chapel Hill. Sadly however, when the new church in the village was built in the late seventies, there was no room left to accommodate the organ so it was 'cut-down' to fit the space. All that remained were a single division of five speaking stops on one manual. This left the organ tonally deficient, unable to produce the range and brilliance of sound usually heard from a pipe organ. In addition it had begun to suffer mechanical failures in recent times so the time had arrived to either rebuild and expand it or replace it altogether.

The new organ is much larger and comprehensive in it's specification but because it is a digital instrument does not need any additional space in the church. It is an Allen Renaissance Quantum Q285 organ (pictured above) comprising three divisions, Great, Swell and Pedal with 45 speaking stops. It was supplied and installed by Jeffers Music Co. of Cork who have installed organs all across Ireland including neighbouring Mountmellick, Ballyfin and Clonaslee.

Below are some links to sample recordings from Allen's Quantum organs (Windows Media Format) And the stop-list specification of the new organ in Rosenallis.
