St. Brigid's Catholic Church
The
present Church was built by the late Very Rev. Thomas Donohoe P.P.
on the site of the old parish hall and was opened in 1976. It was
dedicated on the 20th June of that year by Most Rev. Dr. Patrick
Lennon D.D. and placed under the protection of Saint Brigid of whom
there is a beautiful hand carved wooden statue in the porch of the
church.
This church is of modern red brick design and was recently
refurbished to mark the Jubilee year 2000 of the catholic church. A
new stone carpet was laid incorporating the Year 2000 jubilee design
and a new altar carpet. Also installed by local tradesmen were a new
pine ceiling and lighting. Last year the church itself celebrated
it's silver jubilee which was marked by a mission during the summer
of 2001.
Mass is celebrated in the church on weekday mornings (Monday,
Wednesday and Friday), Saturday evenings and on Sunday mornings.
Also there is Mass and Benediction held at 7pm on the first Friday
of every month.
There are two choirs in the Parish. An adult group which performs at
the Saturday evening Masses and on feasts and special occasions and
also a children's folk group which performs at the Saturday night
Mass on a monthly basis during the school year. In July 2008, the
small pipe organ was replaced with a new instrument.

This church replaced a much older church which was build in 1859. It
was located just outside the village in Capard on a hill about half
a mile to the south known as 'The chapel Hill" or "Windmill Hill"
because of the ruins of the windmill tower that still stands there
today. That building was demolished after the opening of the present
church. A plaque to commemorate the old church was unveiled in 2000
to mark the historic site.
Mass Times: Saturday evenings at 7pm and Sunday mornings at 9am and 11am.
